Northern Irish dairy business boosts turnover


Northern Ireland's Strathroy Dairy aims to expand business particularly in the Republic of Ireland on the back of an increase in turnover to more than &pound50 million last year.



Based in Omagh, county Tyrone and with an operation in Dublin, the company reported an impressive turnover of &pound56.6 million for the year ended 31 July 2014 compared to &pound48.5 million for the previous year. Gross profit was rose from &pound6.1million to &pound6.6milliion in the same period.



In addition, Strathroy increased employment during the year from 131 to 152.



Director Patrick Cunningham said the company had been able to "achieve growth and increase its market share" despite a "highly competitive" dairy industry in both Northern Ireland and the Republic.



"The company's success is dependent on the ongoing management of business risks and uncertainties it faces.



"The directors continue to work closely with suppliers, customers, staff, and financial institutions to carefully manage the company's operations."



The company would continue to look for new opportunities to expand the business which would allow it to be well-positioned to take advantage of the expected economic improvements in Northern Ireland and the Republic. The aim would continue to be to increase market share.



"The directors are confident that their strategy will result in continued growth and profitability," he added.



The family-owned company has been producing and marketing fresh dairy goods especially milk and cream in Northern Ireland and the Republic from Omagh since 1850. Strathroy name was first used on premium products in 1923.
