Northern Irish fudge winner moves into toffees

Blackthorn Foods, Northern Ireland's award winning fudge business,
has launched a new chocolate under its established 'Melting Pot'
brand.

The company, based in Belfast, has introduced a Six Creamy Toffee
pack featuring Twice Coated Belgian Chocolate. The new product has
been introduced in 50g packs, the same format as the company's
popular range of fudges.

The new product follows Blackthorn's introduction last year of a
range of gluten-free, soya-free and non-dairy fudge packs.

Blackthorn Foods, run by three sisters, has won a series of UK GreatTaste Awards for its extensive range of fudge products under
'Melting Pot'.

The trio set up Blackthorn Foods in 2004, their second successful
small business - they previously established an operation
specialising in prepared salads which they sold to a larger company.

The company specialises in traditional production techniques. The
products continue to be handmade using their own recipes. No
additives, trans fats or preservatives are used in the production
process.

The range of flavours has been widened to 11, six of which have beenawarded UK Great Taste Awards. They have also added Fudge Fondue,
an earthenware pot filled with fudge that can be heated to use for
dipping or as a sauce. Chocolate caramels have also been developed.

Blackthorn sells most of its fudges and other sweets outside
Northern Ireland. Hider Foods and Cotswold Fayre distribute the
products in Great Britain. The products are also sold in the
Republic of Ireland and other European markets. It has developed
fudge for the upmarket Partridge's store in London.
