Quiet Man Irish Whiskey voted 'Dram of the Year'

Whisky lovers in Britain have voted The Quiet Man Single Malt from Northern Ireland 'Dram of the Year' in 2016.

The Quiet Man 8-Year-Old Malt, produced in Derry by the Irish whiskey distillery of the same name, was chosen by visitors to Whisky Lounge festivals in British centres during the year. They also awarded The Quiet Man's commercial director Michael Morris a silver medal for his presentations at the festivals.

The judges, referring to The Quiet Man, said: "Seriously, what these guys have achieved in such a short space of time is unbelievable. The quality of the whiskey they are drawing from cask is very good. It is good to see such a relatively young whiskey being recognised and rewarded.

"Too often the glory hunters are looking for whiskies 30-plus years old whilst ignoring the virtues of the younger drams amongst us."

The Quiet Man is carrying forward the heritage of whiskey distilling in Derry city, where the former Watts and Co distillery was once the biggest of its kind on the island of Ireland. This distillery closed in 1921 as a result of an industrial dispute.

The Quiet Man, led by managing director Ciaran Mulgrew, has revived distilling in Derry and is close to completing a new distillery at the city's regenerated Ebrington Square, a former army base. Mr Mulgrew is also managing director of Niche Drinks in the city, one of the leading producers of Irish cream liqueurs such as Saint Brendan's.

The distillery has developed single malts and blended products that are selling successfully in the UK, Ireland and many parts of Europe as well as North America.
Whisky Lounge is the biggest provider of events and other activities in the UK held to promote the whisky industry and nurture its growth through public awareness programmes.

The aim is to entertain, educate and continuously delight all of those involved. It seeks to break down barriers, myths and legends whilst promoting the understanding that whisky is a historical and "iconic product of almost alchemic origins".
It specialises in hosting its own Whisky Tastings, festivals and schools which have become extremely popular. It also tailor-makes a tasting for everything from 10 to 10,000 people whether it be a private party, corporate event, product launch, team building or practically anything.
