Award winning bakery launches kits for home bakers

Amazin Grazin, the award winning producer of traditional wheaten breads in Northern Ireland, has launched DIY kits, including a rustic gluten-free version, for people interested in baking their own bread at home.

Based at Portstewart in county Derry, Amazin Grazin, which has won great taste awards, is owned by chef Lynne Gardiner who has created an innovative range of traditional Northern Irish wheaten breads.

Her range currently includes Cranberry and Walnut, Guinness, Irish whiskey, date and apple, craft beer and treacle. The yeast-free bread is baked with wholemeal flour, bicarbonate of soda, caster sugar, buttermilk, baking powder and a pinch of salt.

The cranberry and walnut wheaten gained a gold star in this year's UK Great Taste Awards.

Commenting on the development of the bread kits for home bakers, she says: "The kits are a response to requests from shoppers about Northern Irish wheaten bread and how to bake their own.

"I decided to create more own kits including a gluten-free version. Gluten-free wheaten is really popular at events I have attended especially farmers' markets in Northern Ireland.

"The kits contain all the ingredients required to bake a traditional Northern Irish wheaten. All is required is the buttermilk."

Lynne continues: "Nothing beats a slice of homemade wheaten bread. It's delicious when served warm from the oven, or toasted for a tasty snack or breakfast. It works exceptionally well with starters that are served with bread, such as soup, pate and smoked salmon. What I've been doing is to introduce different flavour options."

She established the small business in 2016 and has enjoyed considerable success since then.
