Four Northern Irish Foods listed in Great Taste Top 50


Four products from three Northern Irish food producers have been listed in the Top 50 British Foods just announced by the Great Taste Awards organised by the UK Guild of Fine Food.



They include two products from McCartney's of Moira in County Down, the butchery business which was named Supreme UK Champion last year for its unique corned beef. McCartney's has won again with the hand made corned beef and a new Sweet Corned Pork. The full list of GTA winners 2012 will be announced soon.



Around 300 products were shortlisted for Top 50 consideration by the judging panel. The Northern Irish products in the Top 50 2012 are:



Dry Aged Marrow Butter- Kettyle Irish Foods, County Fermanagh: A butter with bone marrow, blended with a mix of sea salt and cracked black pepper.



Hand Made Corned Beef- McCartney's of Moira, County Antrim: Dry-aged beef (heels of silverside) is slow cooked with pork trotters for 14 hours, then shredded, with all fat removed. Natural juices are added back before pressing.



Hand Made Sweet Corned Pork- McCartney's of Moira, County Antrim: Shoulder pork is dry cured, slow cooked with pork trotters for 12 hours, then shredded, with all the fat removed. Natural juices are added back before pressing.
