Asda lists Superior Irish Pork Sausages from Dohertys

Superior Irish pork sausages from Dohertys, the Northern Irish meat processor, have been listed by Asda in Scotland for the first time.

The deal for the sausages, supplied in 720g packs of 16 sausages, follows discussions between Asda and Dohertys over the past few months. Doherty's has been supplying gluten-free sausages to over 300 Asda supermarkets in Britain since 2009.

The new Superior Irish Pork sausages have gone on sale in 44 Asda supermarkets in Scotland and follows the Northern Irish company's recent participation in a supplier development programme organised by the supermarket chain in Northern Ireland.

Brian McQuaid, sales manager at Dohertys, commenting on the latest business won by the family-owned and managed business, which is based in Derry, says: "The new contract is another significant boost for us from Asda, which already stocks 18 of our lines in Northern Ireland.

"We are now working closely with the Asda team to develop sales in Scotland and have a series of promotions planned over the coming months. We would also like to see our Irish pork sausages in Asda supermarkets in Great Britain.

"Our sausages are made to traditional family recipes which have stood the test of time. We are confident that when consumers taste our sausages, they will see why we call them 'Superior'."

Dohertys has a heritage in quality meat processing stretching back over 180 years and spanning six generations of the family. From its origins in the Northwest of Ireland the company has expanded to cover all of Northern Ireland and Donegal. Recent growth has come both through the multiples and via an expanded van sales operation serving independent retailers.

The company employs 45 people from its BRC accredited factory supplying a range of sausages, minced beef products, bacon, ham and black and white puddings. Raw materials are sourced from selected local suppliers ensuring product wholesomeness and traceability.
