Datos Professional Solutions have implemented a software solution for Irish Seafood Business, Ballycotton Seafood

Datos Professional Solutions based in Co. Armagh, Ireland, have developed Season over the last 21 years. Season is a software package which has been designed for the Food Industry and enhanced for the Meat & Seafood Sectors. Their Season Office and Factory packages have recently been implemented to Ballycotton Seafood.

The new system has helped Ballycotton to streamline and gain greater visibility through their entire business processes. The process is very efficient and cost effective as it eliminates the need for printed pick notes or docket books. It also reduces mistakes caused by human error. As the product is scanned at each stage of the process, it provides the company with full stock control and traceability.

Ballycotton Seafood was established in 1986 and is a family owned fish and seafood business located in Ballycotton, on the South Coast of Ireland. With their own fleet of boats they offer a huge array of fresh fish, smoked fish and shellfish along with oven ready seafood products. Employing over 40 people, they have 4 fish shops and supply the Food Service Sector in Ireland. They also export product to France, Spain and the UK.

The company required a software package that would computerise their Office and Factory processes. With the ability to link into existing scale equipment, Season was the obvious choice for a cost effective solution.

The company use the order entry program to enter orders efficiently and accurately. They make use of the many available features, such as, Auto-search, Order History, Stock Forecasting, Price-books and Specifications. Once the orders have been placed they are immediately available on the Season Factory terminals situated on the Factory Floor.

When the fish arrive into the factory, it is weighed and booked into the system. This stock is recorded as a Purchase Order, and invoiced as normal. Any levies which are due, are raised as a credit note against the Invoice.

The fish is weighed and placed into trays. These trays are assigned a number where they are filleted by an operator. The tray is weighed again. Reports such as 'yields per filleter' and 'yields per tray' are available which provides the company with critical business information.

The fish is then packed into boxes, weighed and labelled, awaiting dispatch. To confirm the sales orders, the barcoded labels on the boxes are scanned, with the order available to view in the Office Software where the Invoice is ready to be printed and posted to the built in financial ledgers.

As well as using Season to run their Fish Filleting Line, Ballycotton Seafood also use the software to produce 'CMR Dockets' - haulage dockets which must be produced to accompany the fish when it is exported to Europe.
