Broighter Gold brings new flavours to culinary oils

Broighter Gold, the Northern Irish specialist in rapeseed oils, has launched an innovative range of flavoured oils and has signed a distribution deal in the Republic of Ireland.

The company, which has won a series of accolades including UK Great Taste Awards for its cold pressed rapeseed oil, has developed four flavoured oils for both foodservice and retail customers.

The new flavour infusions blended with its successful rapeseed oil are: chilli, lemon, basil, and rosemary and garlic. The flavoured oils are available in 250ml bottles

Leona Kane, Broighter Gold managing director, says: "The flavoured oils are a direct response to a demand from our regular customers, including leading chefs in Northern Ireland, for different and zesty flavours to be used in the preparation of marinades and also for baking.

"We worked very closely with some of our leading customers in developing the new range which will also strengthen our portfolio of quality and innovative products particularly at this time when we've signed a distribution with Odaios Foods in Dublin to market the oils throughout the Republic.

"The distribution deal is immensely important for us as we seek to grow our business outside Northern Ireland.

"Odaios is an especially good fit for us because of its network throughout the Republic and its focus on quality artisan foods," she adds.

Leona formed the rapeseed processing business in 2009 with husband Richard as part of a farm diversification at Myroe, near Limavady in county Derry. Their 700-acre Broglasco Farm grows rapeseed, wheat, barley and potatoes on fertile land overlooking Lough Foyle. Over 100 acres is used to grow rapeseed.

The artisan business also promotes the use of the Omega rich rapeseed oil through a working museum within the Économusée network. This enables visitors to see how the rapeseed is cold pressed and bottled, and to learn from experienced chefs how best to use the oil in the kitchen.

The arable farm has been owned by the Kane family for over 100 years. The rapeseed oil is a natural product that is produced without any of the heat treatments, solvents or anti-frothing agents that may be used in the processing of refined oils and which can affect their goodness and taste. It is also one of the few 'single 'oils that can be heated to deep-frying temperature without its antioxidants, character, colour and flavour spoiling.

Sales of Broighter Gold rapeseed oil are growing rapidly, largely as a result of the company's strategy of using social media to reach potential clients in hotels and restaurants across Ireland and further afield.
