Northern Irish butcher wins top UK burger award

O'Doherty's Fine Meats, the Northern Irish gourmet butcher, gained the Speciality Burger of the Year Award 2014 for its innovative lamb and anchovy burger in the International Meat Awards in Birmingham.

Based in Enniskillen, county Fermanagh, O'Doherty's Fine Meats is a family-owned and managed butchery business that has an established track record in developing original and tasty meats.

Among the award winning products developed by O'Doherty's are its Fermanagh Black Bacon and unique Fermanagh Black Corned Beef, both of which are sold in Great Britain, the Republic of Ireland and further afield.

The company, now owned and managed by Pat O'Doherty, has also won a cluster of awards for its steaks, sausages and game meats.

The latest award came at the start of National Butchers' Week across the UK and the big Food and Drink Expo 2014/Farmshop and Deli Show at the NEC in Birmingham.

Pat O'Doherty says: "This is a tremendous award for us because it is the industry's recognition of the quality, taste and innovation of our unique lamb and anchovy burger.

"The new burger is the latest from our ongoing new product development programme and reflects our commitment to the creation of new taste experiences."

O'Doherty's Fine Meats has been in the forefront of the meat trade in Northern Ireland for over 40 years. The company has won a string of awards including Butcher Shop of the year.

Focused on artisan meats, O'Doherty's sources its beef, lamb, game and poultry from farmers in Fermanagh. The pork, ham and bacon is sources from O'Doherty's own herd of free-range pigs raised on a remote island on Lough Erne, near Enniskillen.

The innovation-led business, in addition, successfully launched Ireland's first Black Pudding Festival last December.
