City cheese is a small family business and are the proud producers of Northern Ireland’s first organic cheese.

Christo and Angelique Swanepoel are both South African chefs who have been living in Northern Ireland for seven years.

Christo was brought up on a dairy farm and he was reared on raw milk and raw milk cheese. This passion for raw milk and their background in food made cheese making a natural business venture.

He and Angelique decided to start making cheese with raw milk in 2014.

City Cheese currently produce a variety of goats milk and cows milk cheese, organic and no organic cheeses from there newly purposely build creamery in Ballywalter.

All of the cheeses are made in small batches by hand. They are matured at an ambient temperature on locally sourced larch timber shelves for no shorter than 90 days.

The cheese is based on a Dutch gouda recipe but Christo will quickly remind you that it is much more than your average gouda.

  • Hand–made Dutch Gouda–style cheese & Northern Ireland’s first raw milk goat’s cheese including:
  • Angelique – This cheese has a natural rind encasing a wonderfully creamy textured semi–soft cheese inside. throughout its ripening period of around 90 days, the wonderful range of natural flavour’s from the rind develops into the cheese underneath.
  • Young Culmore – A young gouda style cheese with a natural rind, ripened for 90 day’s.
  • Pitjes Kass – A young gouda style cheese with organic cumin seeds with a natural rind, ripened for 90 day’s. (Dutch for Cumin Cheese)
