FIRST HARVEST OF GLENARM ORGANIC SALMON NEARS

Glenarm Organic Salmon, the preferred choice of top chefs like Richard Corrigan, will be back on the market again soon??¦and demand for the premium seafood is already strong from top restaurants in Europe and the US. The first harvest of Glenarm Organic Salmon, raised on a unique sea farm in the Irish Sea close to the Northern Ireland coast, is scheduled in early summer. The re-emergence of the seafood will be a remarkable triumph for the Northern Salmon Company, which saw salmon in its seawater farms totally wiped out by an unprecedented jellyfish invasion in November 2007??¦.just a few months after it was chosen as part of the 80th birthday celebration dinner for Her Majesty the Queen. New investors helped get the small company back on its feet and to restock two seawater farms at Glenarm Bay and Red Bay in the cold but invigorating Irish Sea. The new products will be marketed under the Glenarm Organic Salmon brand ??" the Northern Salmon Company acquired organic status in 2001 ??" and certified by the influential Organic Food Federation (OFF). The company will now be known as Gleanarm Organic Salmon Ltd while still using ???Northern Salmon Company Ltd' as the trading name. ???We're really excited about the first harvest and being back on the market again,??? says John Russell, Glenarm Organic Salmon's managing director. ???Feedback from a number of test samplings has been tremendous and we've had a great many approaches to supply products to both existing and new customers. Indeed we expect Prince Charles to be among the first to enjoy the distinctively rich taste and texture of our salmon. He visited the fishery recently and expressed an interest in tasting the salmon when it becomes available. ???What sets our salmon apart is the flavour that comes from being raised on seawater farms located in the coastal water of the Irish Sea, where the currents and tidal flows ensure optimal exercise and firm muscle formation. They are raised on a wonderfully clean environment in the only organic salmon farms on the coast of Northern Ireland. The fish have plenty of room to grow and are nourished with a diet using only natural and organic ingredients from sustainable sources,??? he adds. The company uses only organic ingredients from a nearby feed mill in line with its focus on rearing salmon to the OFF's strict requirements and the RSPCA's ???Five Freedoms' to ensure the maintenance of the highest standards. Most of Glenarm's clients before the catastrophic jellyfish attack are already ordering products. They include Michelin-starred chefs and gourmet restaurants in the UK, France, Belgium, Germany and the US. Development plans include the construction of a processing plant and smokery on site at Glenam.
