UK Baker Greggs eyes expansion in Northern Ireland

Greggs, the UK bakery chain, is planning to expand operations in
Northern Ireland.

The bakery has already one outlet in Northern Ireland and is
reported to be considering as many as 50 locations across the
region,which has a longstanding heritage of popular home bakeries.

The pies, pasties and sandwiches specialist has hired commercial
property firm Savills in Belfast to scout for locations in Northern Ireland. Greggs, now the UK's largest bakery chain, opened its firstoutlet in Northern Ireland earlier in the year.

The first site was located as part of a service centre on the
region's M2 motorway and was described by the bakery as a "trial
location".

It is reported that Greggs is considering around 10 outlets in the
Belfast area as part of a major expansion of its business.

Greggs has 1,670 bakery shops throughout Great Britain and is listedon the Stock Exchange

The bakery has said that it "continues to view Belfast and Northern Ireland as an attractive market. We currently have one franchise
shop open and continue to look for good opportunities to develop
our estate."

The company reported a 4.9 per cent rise in sales in Britain for the13 weeks to 3 October. It bakes bread every day in its own regional bakeries.
