Northern Irish artisans launch original chutney flavour

Two award winning artisan enterprises in Northern Ireland have
teamed up to create an original chutney product.

The new Gin Plum Chutney has been developed by Deli Muru in Belfast,an artisan maker of chutneys, relishes, biscuits and cakes, with
gin from Shortcross, a boutique distillery in county Down, which
has won awards in the prestigious International Wine and Spirit
Competition in New York.

Deli Muru, formed by Kay Armstrong in 2012, has gained a UK Great
Taste Award for its Indian Brinjal pickle.

The new chutney features plums soaked in Shortcross Gin and blended with coriander, oranges and apples. It is being produced in 125g
jars at a recommended retail price of ?3.99.

Kay Armstrong says: "I was attracted to use Shortcross Gin because
of the distinctive flavour that comes from its use of home grown
botanicals. It's a premium gin with a very different flavour.

"Plums and gin work very well together and provide a different
flavour. It reflects my focus on creating original products using
locally sourced ingredients. I was delighted when Rademon Estate
agreed for me to use the gin in developing a new chutney which also works well with a range of foods," she adds.

She has collaborated with other artisan producers in Northern
Ireland, including Keen Nutrition, which is based in Bangor, county Down, and has used Barney's Brew from Hilden Brewery in her
bestselling pear, mango and ale chutney.

Shortcross Gin has been launched in Northern Ireland by Rademon
Estate Distillery, a craft distillery, the region's first gin for
over a century.

Shortcross Gin is described by Rademon Craft Distillery, based at
Crossgar in county Down, as "an aromatic and exceptionally long,
smooth gin that redefines what an Irish gin should be".

The gin is based on fresh apples, elderberries and wild clover
distilled with other botanicals including juniper, coriander,
orange peel, lemon peel and cassia.

Founded in 2012 by David and wife Fiona Boyd-Armstrong, Shortcross
Gin is produced by Rademon Estate Distillery which is located on thefamily's historic estate.

Shortcross Gin is driven by a small batch philosophy. It uses the
finest hand-picked botanicals, fresh water drawn from the estate
itself and distilled in a bespoke copper still. Bottling and
labelling are carried out by hand.
