Handmade butter company targets growth in north of England

Abernethy Butter, the Northern Irish handmade butter maker, has
signed a distribution agreement to grow sales in the north of
England.

The acclaimed artisan butter producer has linked up with Delifresh
in Bradford, west Yorkshire, a specialist supplier of fresh produce, charcuterie, dairy, cheese and speciality ingredients to the
catering trade on a daily basis.

Allison Abernethy, who runs the award winning butter business with
husband Will, says: "We had been looking for a suitable channel to
develop sales of our butters to the catering sector in particular inthe north of England for some time. Looking north was a logical stepfor us because we have a very good foothold in the Home Counties.
We've still opportunities to develop there and are also working on
these.

"The approach of Delifresh is in line with the passion that we have for artisan butters which we produce lovingly by hand using fresh
cream with provenance from a longstanding dairy business near our
processing unit in Northern Ireland.

"Delifresh is an ideal distribution partner for us and we look
forward to supporting the team there closely in building contacts
especially with chefs throughout the north of England. We have a
wealth of experience in sampling our butters in both foodservice andretail.

"We were delighted when Delifresh agreed to take on distribution forus to the catering industry there. We are keen to reach leading
chefs in hotels and restaurants. We already have a good portfolio ofhigh-end chefs such as Heston Blumenthal, Marcus Wareing and Andy
McFadden in the south as well as prestigious retailers of the
calibre of Fortnum and Mason in London. In the north east we are
already listed by the new food hall in Fenwick's in Newcastle upon
Tyne," Allison adds.

The agreement with Delifresh is for the distribution of Abernethy's recently launched handcrafted and hand rolled creamy butter with
Dulse (Palmaria palmate), an edible seaweed that's been popular as asnack and a natural food additive in Northern Ireland for
generations.

The seaweed is rich in minerals and vitamins. Abernethy gained a UK Great Taste Award last year for the Dulse Butter.

Abernethy Butter is based at Dromore in rural county Down and was
formed in 2005. Will Abernethy is the artisan company's chief buttermaker. He churns the cream by hand and also hand rolls the butter.
Packing is also carried out by hand.
