Northern Irish craft breweries collaborate on beer for export

Three craft breweries in Northern Ireland have teamed up to develop a new beer especially for Great Britain and other markets abroad.

The three breweries - Farmageddon, a co-operative in Comber, county Down, Hillstown, a farm-based business in Randalstown, county Antrimand Pokertree in Donaghamore in Carrickmore - have created a triple IPA for launch at the Craft Brew Rising 2016 (CBR16) showcase at
the Old Truman Brewery over 26-27 February.

The new beer is a red Belgian style product that is based on the
individual skills of the three Northern Irish craft breweries.
Full details of the beer, including its ABV and name, will be
unveiled at the show. Samples will also be provided for visitors to enjoy.

Pokertree, formed by brewer Darren Nugent, has developed red beers, while Hillstown has expertise in Belgian ales, Farmageddon, formed
by Eoin Wilson and a group of martial arts enthusiasts, has providedthe hops and knowledge it uses for its own IPA beers.

Hillstown's Nigel Logan says: "We are all keen to expand sales
outside Northern Ireland and particularly in Great Britain, our
closest market. It made business sense, therefore, for us to pool
our expertise and resources in the development of a new beer that
could appeal to craft beer lovers abroad.

"We'll be sampling the new beer at CBR16 to see what visitors to
the show think of it and then assessing its export potential. It
will give us a golden opportunity to talk to other craft beer
enthusiasts," he adds.

The trio of breweries will also be showing their individual beers.

Pokertree has developed a range of beers including Red Earl Ruby,
Ghrian Golden Ale and a treacle oat stout.

Hillstown's beers all have farm identities and include Horny Bull
Stout, Goat's Butt Beer, Massey Red Ale and Spitting Lama.

Farmageddon has developed a Golden Pale Ale, an India Pale Ale and
an Indian Export Porter.

Now in its fourth year, CBR16 showcases the very best craft beer
brews and cider from the British Isles and further afield.

Rebranded and bigger and better than ever, CBR London 2016 is now
recognised as the launch pad event in the UK's beer calendar for newand exciting brews and is the place for beer fans to head for the
latest product launches, new recipes and innovations in the brewing world.
