Northern Ireland's Tayto celebrates 60th anniversary

Tayto, Northern Ireland's best known and most successful crisp
brand, is celebrating its 60th anniversary. The Northern Ireland group also owns Golden Wonder, Real Crisps, Jonathan Crisp and Mr
Porky's pork snacks in Britain.

Based at Tandragee in county Armagh, Tayto is an iconic brand in
Northern Ireland with its cheese and onion crisps being the best-
known and most successful snack product. An extensive marketing and promotional campaign has been rolled out to engage consumers and
retailers over the rest of this year.

The snack, formed in 1956 by Northern Irish entrepreneur Thomas
Hutchinson, also operates one of the region's most successful
visitors' centres at its 17th century Tayto Castle, part of the
production complex in Tandragee, where it currently employs 450
people. It produces one million bags of snacks and crisps every
working day!

The group currently processes around 20,000 tonnes of potatoes,
mostly from farms in Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland,
every year to produce an extensive portfolio of crisps, the three
most popular being cheese and onion, spring onion and smoky bacon.

Chief executive Paul Allen says the group's success is based on a
longstanding commitment to quality and innovation. "We've been
rolling out our strategic investment plan across our five UK sites
to modernise our machinery and processes. This has had a major
impact on our production capabilities.

"Innovation runs right across our busy operation. We have a sharp
focus on new product development and improvements across all aspectsof the business. Innovation is very much integral to everything we
do and will remain a focus into the future.

"We are developing an innovation centre - a creative space where
ideas can thrive and where teams can meet to assess and review
viability of new products and processes.

"This centre should help to demonstrate how important innovation and working closely with our retail partners is to us."

Northern Ireland Food and Drink companies are also celebrating the
regions pure, natural, quality food and drink in 2016, with a
series of local, national, and international promotional events.
