Suki Tea wins 5 more stars in this year's Great Taste Awards

Belfast-based Suki Tea is celebrating the news that a further four of their teas have wowed the judges in this year's Great Taste Awards. In the world's largest and most rigorous food awards scheme involving over 400 judges and thousands of hours blind tasting almost 10,000 food and drink products, the four teas were awarded a total of five gold stars. Great Taste is simply about taste, with more than 12 judges tasting and commenting on each product before a rating of 1, 2 or 3 stars are awarded.

Suki's Ayurvedic Stress Free Tea, a caffeine free liquorice infusion, was awarded 2 stars and praised by the judges for being 'well blended' with 'big, well-rounded, genuine sweetness at the front'.

Green Luponde, Wellness Green Tea Ginseng, and Organic Rooibos each received 1 star with comments including 'good flavours' 'well balanced and distinctive' and 'good strong amber colour' respectively.

"Great Taste is such a widely trusted award so having this 'stamp of approval' on our blends always adds great value to the business, grabbing the attention of potential buyers across the country and beyond." explains Oscar Woolley, co-director at Suki Tea.

Annie Rooney, fellow co-director went on to say "Oscar and I were privileged to be invited to be Great Taste Award judges this year for the Irish food entries in Dublin. It was a wonderful experience in itself and a real eye-opener into the strict processes involved and the multiple confirmations of approval that are required by industry experts before achieving these awards. To have won a further 5 stars for our own products in this year's awards is a great boost of confidence to all the team, and in celebration we'll be heading to a local music festival to dance the night away."

Belfast's Boutique Blender, Suki Tea, was first set up in 2005 by business partners Annie and Oscar in their quest for the perfect cuppa. After both having spent time separately travelling Asia they returned to Northern Ireland inspired with a vision to provide ethically sourced high quality loose leaf tea delivered with a ceremonial experience.

The company's efforts in ethical sourcing were highlighted in 2012 when they introduced the UK's first Triple Certified Teas (Fairtrade, Organic and Rainforest Alliance Certified) in their blends of Earl Grey Blue Flower, Darjeeling Bannockburn, and Green Luponde.

Still hand-packing tea in Belfast and with a close knit team of 11, over the years they have won over 25 Guild of Fine Food Great Taste Stars. The tea has been served up at cafes, restaurants, and hotels around the UK and across the world for a number of years now and is also available to buy at www.suki-tea.com as well as many local delicatessens and garden centres.
