Hider lists Northern Ireland's DIY Daily Bread

Hider Foods is now marketing an award winning brown soda bread product from Our Daily Bread based in Belfast in Northern Ireland.

Hider is Our Daily Bread's first major customer outside Northern Ireland and will distribute the Northern Ireland company's unique 'Bake it Yourself Traditional Irish Wheaten' Loaf' pack.

The 'bake your own' bread pack is the brainchild of Melanie Gilfillan, a keen home baker, who was encouraged by friends and relatives to turn her kitchen skills into a small business in 2012.

"I began baking Irish wheaten loaves for friends and relatives and was encouraged by their feedback to sell them through some of the leading delis in Belfast and other parts of Northern Ireland," she says.

"The idea to develop a 'bake your own' pack again came from friends who wanted to send the bread to contacts abroad. This led me to create a pack of all the necessary ingredients in a foil tray.

"The wheaten loaf is made by simply adding water and mixing the ingredients in a bowl and then placing in the foil tray provided in the handy pack for baking in an oven for about 40 minutes.

"It's an easy way to make a traditional Irish wheaten loaf, usually described as a brown soda in Britain. All the ingredients are natural and the bread doesn't contain any artificial flavourings, colourings, additives or preservatives. The ingredients feature stone-ground flour, wheat germ, bran, bicarbonate of soda, salt, sugar and dried buttermilk powder," she adds.

The business with Hider followed the small bakery's success in winning gold in the UK Great Taste Awards and participation in the Restaurant Show in London.

In addition to its wheaten bread, the company has also developed a Bake it Yourself Irish Soda Bread, another longstanding traditional Irish bread.

Hider Food Imports Ltd is a family-owned business which has been trading since 1965.
