Tasty Foods wins new listing for sauces from Tesco GB

Tasty Foods Cuisine, the Northern Irish specialist in the development and manufacture of premium sauces and other foods, has won a listing from Tesco GB for new Tikka Masala and Balti curry sauces that are ready to use.

The authentic sauces are now on sale in over 200 Tesco stores in Britain and Northern Ireland and follow the Belfast company's success last year in winning business from the retailer for sauce concentrates Authentic Curry Paste and Authentic Gravy Paste.

Unlike the pastes, the new sauces have been developed for customers seeking fresh products and are available from chill cabinets in larger 400g tubs.

The new business with Tesco GB was confirmed by Conor Daykin, an experienced chef who founded Tasty Foods with wife Kathy in 1990 to develop a range of quality convenience foods including sauces and pies.

"We saw an opportunity here to create healthy nutritional sauces in other ethnic ranges that are a speciality of our business, Indian and Chinese. Our target market is family meal time as market research has shown consumers to be more concerned about health issues and best value for money when it comes to the weekly shop. Ethnic Indian also leads the sauce market in Britain.

"Tesco has been very supportive and responded positively to the new sauces which have also proved popular in a series of taste tests.

"The new Tesco business follows the successful launch in Britain builds of our ambient sauces and moves us into another important category of chilled foods."

Tasty Foods employs around 30 people at a purpose-built 10,000 square foot state-of-the-art manufacturing plant in Glenview Business Park in west Belfast. The company has achieved British Retail Consortium Grade A accreditation, operates from an EEC approved factory and uses the Food Standard Agency's Traffic Light System on all its packaging.

In addition to Tesco, the company supplies products to Asda, Sainsbury's, Musgrave/SuperValu and Spar in Northern Ireland.

The product range includes concentrated sauces, traditional homemade pies, quality beef lasagne, ready meals, fresh homemade soups, garlic breads and Irish stew.
