Four international awards for The Quiet Man Irish Whiskey

Northern Ireland's The Quiet Man Irish Whiskey has won four major awards for its malt and blended whiskies in the prestigious International Spirits Challenge (ISC) in London.

The Quiet Man is among a new generation of Irish whiskey products now being developed by smaller distilleries and is the only distiller from Northern Ireland to feature in the challenge.

The company is completing a new state-of-the-art distillery at Ebrington in Derry, one of the historic centres of Irish whiskey on the island of Ireland. The Quiet Man is reviving the whiskey distilling tradition in Derry which stretches back many generations.

The Quiet Man gained silver awards for the following in the Irish Whiskey category in the annual awards:

The Quiet Man 'An Fear Ciuin' 12 year-old Single Malt
The Quiet Man 'An Fear Ciuin' 8 year-old Oloroso Single Cask Single Malt
The Quiet Man 'An Fear Ciuin' 8 year-old Single Malt
The Quiet Man Superior Irish Whiskey Blend

Michael Morris, The Quiet Man's commercial director, commenting on the awards, says: "We are delighted to have achieved this recognition in this highly influential challenge. Irish whiskey is now a very competitive category because of the growing global popularity of the spirit particularly in the US.

"The awards are a tremendous boost for the business as we step up our international marketing activities, launched earlier in the year, which have so far resulted in The Quiet Man winning business in almost 30 markets," he adds.

Ciaran Mulgrew, the founder and managing director of The Quiet Man Irish whiskey, named the whiskey in honour of his father, John, a bar tender for over 50 years who was well known in Belfast for his discretion. "An Fear Ciuin' is the Irish for The Quiet Man.
