Two Northern Irish products in line for Grocer innovation awards

Two innovative food products from Northern Ireland companies have
been shortlisted for top category awards in the prestigious Grocer
New Product Awards 2015. The finalists from Northern Ireland - amongaround 200 products from UK producers are:

Willowbrook Fine Foods, Killinchy, county Down for its red cabbage with apple in the Meal Accompaniments category; and

Mash Direct of Comber, county Down for its vegetable burgers with spring cabbage in the Vegetable Sausages and Burgers category.

They are among new products from processors across the United
Kingdom bidding for a Grocer award for innovation that could help
boost sales with retailers.

The shortlist of the most innovative and exciting products was drawnup by a panel of experts for the final awards to be held on 2
October in London.

Willowbrook Fine Foods was launched earlier in the year by
Willowbrook Foods, also based in Killinchy, to specialise in gourmetmeal accompaniments. Wiillowbrook Foods is a leading UK supplier of pre-packed vegetables and other products using ingredients from the family owned farm on which the processing plant is located. The
company is led by John McCann.

Mash Direct is one of Northern Ireland's most ambitious and
innovative businesses. It is also a successful farm diversification that's been specialising in potato and vegetable products for over
10 years. The company, headed by husband and wife team Martin and
Tracy Hamilton, supplies products to most of the leading UK
multiples and also exports to the US, Europe and the Middle East.

The Grocer New Product Awards, organised by The Grocer magazine, arethe UK's most influential awards in retailing and are held to
promote and encourage innovation within the food processing industry.
