Big and small from Northern Ireland in Quality Food Awards

Original products from five Northern Ireland companies have been
shortlisted for November's final stages of the prestigious UK
Quality Food Awards.

The Northern Ireland contenders include products from major
processors such as Moy Park, the region's only ?1 billion business, Finnebrogue in Downpatrick, county Down, a specialist in venison andpork meals, and Karro Foods of Cookstown, the leading pork producer.

Also included in the list are smaller enterprises Unimush Ireland ofArmagh and Squeeze Juice in Warrenpoint, county Down, a producer of wheatgrass juice shots.

They were among over 2,000 products from the biggest to smallest
producers in the country vie for the attention of the panel of
expert judges.

The Quality Food Awards, announced on 5 November, are the most
prestigious awards for food and drink products on sale in UK groceryoutlets. What sets these awards apart is the impartiality and
robustness of the judging process.

Food and drink experts from all over the UK took part in the judgingat the University of West London in Ealing where products were
assessed over the course of 17 days.

They included some of the leading food and drink experts in the
country and were made up of consultants, food and drink technologists, writers, chefs, lecturers, Masters of Wine, mixologists, beer
specialists, wine specialists, packaging experts, and leading figures from food and research organisations such as Campden BRI and
Leatherhead Food Research.

The results will be announced on 5 November at a gala event in
London.
