Manufacturing Excellence award for Northern Irish Moy Park
Moy Park, the leading European poultry processor and Northern
Ireland's largest company has been named Food Manufacture Company ofthe Year 2015.
The company, based at Craigavon in county Armagh, won the ultimate
title in the annual Food Manufacturing Excellence Awards (FMEA),
the 'Oscars' of the UK food and drink industry.
The poultry business, Northern Ireland's only ?1 billion company,
also lifted the category award as meat and poultry manufacturing
company of the year.
The company's outstanding achievements were honoured at a gala
industry evening in London. Moy Park's director of operations Gary
Leslie received the coveted awards.
Moy Park turns over ?1.4 billion and employs 12,000 people at 14
processing sites and production facilities in Northern Ireland,
England, France, the Netherlands and the Republic of Ireland.
The FMEA awards' independent judging panel, led by Paul Wilkinson,
chair of the National Skills Academy, congratulated Moy Park's
strong category leadership and development, together with its focus and methodologies, made sure its team understood them and then gone to great lengths to assess their effectiveness.
Moy Park's safety initiative Meerkat Way was described as "an
inspired way of promoting best health and safety practises in busy
working environments".
The judges were unanimous in selecting Moy Park for the top award,
saying "it was the best all round entry, which ticked every box".
Whether measured by its category management, marketing and new
product development, supply chain improvements, quality assurance,
training or environmental stewardship, Moy Park led the field.
"Its Meerkat Way safety programme captured perfectly the firm's team spirit - unusual in a business with a workforce of more than 12,000 staff at facilities in the UK, Ireland, the Netherlands and
France."
The awards, now in their 15th year, were organised by the Food
Manufacture Group. Other Northern Ireland companies shortlisted in
the award categories included Hannan Meats, Moira, Mash Direct,
Comber and Willowbrook Foods, Killinchy.
