UK Quality Food Awards for Northern Ireland companies
Four Northern Ireland companies have been successful in this year's UK Quality Food Awards, which spotlights products that "offer fine
ingredients, great tastes and aromas, beautiful packaging and
amazing value for money".
The Northern Ireland successes include both large and small
companies in a broad range of sectors including poultry, beverages
and side dishes.
The Northern Ireland successes are:
Highly Commended
Unimush Ireland, based in Armagh, county Armagh for Extra Special
Chestnut Mushrooms with Goat Cheese and Carmelised Red Onion for
Asda in Side Dishes Category;
Hughes Mushrooms, Dungannon, county Tyrone for Mushrooms Filled Fullof Leek and Wensleydale Cheese in the Ready to Cook Category;
Commended
Moy Park, Craigavon, county Armagh for Sweet and Sticky Chicken
Wings for Tesco in Meat-Poultry Category;
Squeeze Wheatgrass Juice, Warrenpoint, county Down for Ready to
Drink Shots in the Cold Beverage - Juices and Smoothies Category.
For almost four decades, the Quality Food and Drink Awards have
toasted and rewarded some of the finest food and drink products on
sale in UK supermarkets.
The Quality Food Awards are not just about new products: the judges are looking to reward excellence in food and drink, regardless of
when a product was launched. If it tastes great and looks great, a
well-established product is as eligible to win an award as one that was launched in the past 12 months.
Winning a Quality Food Award is regarded as an outstanding
achievement. It means that a product has been judged to be the very best in its category by renowned industry experts.
Launched in 1979, the awards are the most prestigious awards for
food and drink products on sale in UK grocery outlets, and this is
due in large part to the transparency and robustness of the judging process.
Expert judging panels are comprised of chefs, chef-lecturers, home
economists, food writers, and consultants, restaurateurs, food
technologists and representatives from regional food groups, all of whom bring their extensive knowledge to bear in the process.
The awards not only reward achievements in new product development, but also point the way for future success through continual
innovation and creativity. Each year the awards demonstrate the
capacity of retailers and manufacturers to create marvellous new
products.
Over more than three decades the awards have reflected the
professionalism and financial commitment to product development,
whether it's ethnic specialities or new presentations of more
familiar foods. Consumer desire for new tastes and food experiences is never-ending and, as a result, the creative collaboration of
retailers and food service organisations is also unceasing.
