Sodexo breakthrough for Northern Irish artisan baker
Artisan baker Yummy Bakes NI has secured its first contract in GreatBritain in the shape of a deal to supply Sodexo, the global leader
in foodservices.
Yummy Bakes, based at Newtownabbey in county Antrim, is supplying
its award winning shortbread biscuits to Sodexo for clients in
Britain. The contract follows a pitch to Sodexo by Anna Taggart,
Yummy Bake's founder and owner. The pitch was arranged by the
Levercliffe food consultancy.
Mrs Taggart, commenting on the Sodexo business, says: "I am
absolutely delighted to have won this, my first sales contract in
Britain, with such a prestigious customer".
It followed extensive sampling and discussions with the key buyers
that had been lined up by Levercliffe. What clinched the deal was
the product quality and integrity, taste and ease in baking-off.
"The new business is an immensely encouraging endorsement of the
shortbread product," she adds.
Established in 2012, Yummy Bakes has developed a strong customer
base throughout Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland for a
broad range of artisan bake-off products including home-baked
scones, cakes and a range of biscuits and cookies.
Over the past few years the company has won a series of awards
across its product range from influential bodies such as the Guild
of Fine Food in the annual Great Taste Awards.
The small business focuses on traditional artisan baking techniques and uses family recipes handed down over four generations and using only the finest of locally sourced ingredients. All products are
crafted by hand, instantly blast frozen and supplied directly to thecustomer.
"My mission in starting the bakery was to fuse together the
uncompromised values of traditional Northern Irish home baking with the modern convenience of a ready to bake product," she adds.
