Gold for Northern Irish Quark at World Cheese Awards

Dale Farm, Northern Ireland's biggest cheese producer, struck gold
for its Quark at the recent World Cheese Awards in the NEC,
Birmingham as part of the BBC Good Food Show.

The company, part United Dairy Farmers, a leading farmers'
co-operative, also gained a further six awards including a silver
and three bronzes for its Extra Mature Cheddar. The silver was for
Rathdarragh Extra Mature Cheddar, which it produces for discount
retailer Lidl.

The bronze winners are marketed under the company's longstanding andsuccessful Dromona brand.

Quark is a fat-free, skimmed milk soft cheese that's suitable for
vegetarians. Quark is a relatively recent development from the
company's extensive investment in new product development that's
focused on market trends in the United Kingdom and the Republic of
Ireland.

In addition, Dale Farm gained bronze awards for its Fivemiletown
Boilie goat's cheese and for Spelga Cottage Cheese Natural and
Spelga Cottage Cheese Pineapple flavour.

Organised by the UK Guild of Fine Food, the World Cheese Awards is
now one of the leading international competitions for cheese
producers from around the globe.

The awards have been held over the past 25 years and have brought
producers and buyers together from the dairy industry worldwide.

It's now the world's largest cheese competition, attracting over
25,000 entries from almost 40 countries and is judged by more than
250 experts from around the world.

As an integral part of the popular BBC Good Food Show, the
competition is also open to the public who are able to both sample
and purchase the cheese. Some 80,000 consumers visited the event.

Almost 3000 cheeses formed part of the World Cheese feature.
