'Free-from' foods on Northern Ireland showcase at Gulfood 2016

Gluten and sugar-free products will feature prominently on the
Northern Ireland showcase at Gulfood 2016 in Dubai. The Northern
Ireland products, many of which have won international awards for
outstanding taste and quality, will form part of the UK Pavilion in the Trade Centre Arena, Sheikh Saeed Hall (S-B45).

Many of the companies in the Northern Ireland presentation are
already doing good business with some of the biggest retailers in
the Emirates such as Spinneys, LuLu, Carrefour and Al Maya.

The shelves, chill cabinets and freezers in these and other stores
now feature grass-fed meat and dairy from animals grazing lush
meadowland pastures as well as pork, handcrafted bakery products,
convenience meals and sides, and mineral water from artesian
springs from Northern Ireland.

The region's food and drink businesses, both large and small and
across most sectors, have vast experience in dealing with
international retailers including British and European leaders
such as Tesco, Sainsbury, Waitrose, Marks and Spencer, Harrods,
Fortnum and Mason as well as Carrefour, Aldi and Lidl, El Corte
Ingles/SuperCor, Auchan, Leclerc, Albert Heijn, Jumbo and
Hong Kong's Wellcome and ParknShop.

Northern Ireland food and drink has grown in popularity on the
Emirates and other international markets because of its reputation
for wholesomeness, provenance and safety. The region's companies
are also market-focused and committed to the development of
innovative products that meet consumer concerns about obesity by
reducing sugar,salt and gluten.

This consumer-focus has contributed to success of the food and drinkindustry in Northern Ireland as Northern Ireland's biggest
manufacturer and key exporter. The industry generated upwards of
?4.5 billion last year to the local economy and employed around
100,000 people across the 'field to fork' supply chain. Farms,
mostly family owned, operate to the highest animal welfare and
husbandry standards.

Processing plants, in addition, work to the highest European
hygiene standards using locally sourced and traceable ingredients.

The presentation has been organised by Invest Northern Ireland, the region's Government development agency which organises trade
programmes including 'Meet the Buyer' visits by key business people in both retail and foodservice organisations worldwide.
