Top Regional Manufacturing Award for Mash Direct

Mash Direct, a specialist in convenience meals, has won a top Northern Ireland award for manufacturing excellence. The company, based at Comber in county Down, was named winner in the Agri-Food category in the Manufacturing Company of the Year in the Made in Northern Ireland Awards, an event organised by Insider business publication. Insider's special publications editor Philip Cunliffe said: "The manufacturing industry has undergone some turbulent times, but the winners and shortlisted companies demonstrate the outstanding skill and innovation that exists in Northern Ireland. It's a sector that's crucial to the economy and these businesses have an important part to play." The awards recognise manufacturing companies that have demonstrated success in innovation, product development and growth in either domestic or overseas markets. Cunliffe added: 'Manufacturing is arguably the most important sector in Northern Ireland and its contribution to the economy is undeniable, 2015 was a particularly strong year for Northern Ireland manufacturing. "Mash Direct is a fast growing, innovative company that has excelled over the last 12 months and represents everything that is good in the sector and I salute them for their contribution to the manufacturing and food industry." Martin Hamilton, founder and managing director of Mash Direct, said: 'We are delighted to win this marvellous award, highlighting the quality of our business and commitment to excellence in the manufacturing of our extensive range of natural and wholesome products. "The recognition for excellence will be of a tremendous benefit as we continue to develop our sales in Great Britain and other European markets." Mash Direct will now go through to compete at Insider's Made in the UK Awards 2016. The company, originally launched as a farm diversification project by Mr Hamilton and wife Tracy on their family farm which produced potatoes and vegetables. The initial convenience product was pre-prepared mashed potatoes. The business has expanded to offer a wide range of steamed products as ready-made accompaniments and convenience dishes." It sells its products to major supermarkets in Britain as well as the Middle East and the US.
