New Healthy Sausages from Finnebrogue Artisan for M&S
Finnebrogue Artisan in Northern Ireland has developed new sausages for Marks & Spencer aimed at health-conscious consumers.
The first is a low meat super bean sausage - M&S Butternut and Smoked Paprika Bangers - which has 40 per cent less meat than a standard sausage and the rest is made up of beans - Cannellini and Borlotti - which adds protein to the recipe.
"The second, a meat-free butternut squash sausage, is ideal for those who want an alternative to meat on their plate.
Downpatrick based Finnebrogue Artisan has been working in partnership with M&S since 2002 to provide the perfect venison farmed on the Finnebrogue Estate. Since 2009 the company has crafted all of the retailer's premium sausages, and have now added the two new products to the range.
Jo Discombe, Finnebrogue business development director, says: "It has been an exciting year for us. Trends in diets very much determine where we go in terms of our new product development. Right now people want to eat a much more balanced diet and add other sources of protein and some extra vegetables to their diet, so just in time for summer, we have brought out two delicious new M&S sausages.
"The M&S Reduced Fat High Fibre Super Sausage is high in fibre and low in fat - it is the lowest fat sausage available on the high street. It is packed full of flavour and perfect for the BBQ, served in a floury bap with a good drizzle of any of the M&S Spirit of Summer sauces. It also makes the ideal breakfast sausage as it is based on a Cumberland style sausage recipe with plenty of pepper.
"This sausage is packed full of butternut squash and deliciously seasoned with smoked paprika and wrapped in a seaweed based casing. Teamed with creamy mash or served up on the BBQ with a seasonal salad, this is an ideal healthy alternative for summer."
Steve McLean, M&S head of Agriculture & Fisheries, adds: "Finnebrogue is continuously making changes to its product lines to meet customer needs and trends. By implementing a world class approach to new product development and originality, it has successfully maintained its name for good quality and pioneering products.
"We are delighted to be expanding our relationship with Finnebrogue and will continue to show our commitment to making sure our suppliers receive all the support they need to craft superior products."
