The Quiet Man Irish whiskey strikes double golds in global event

The Quiet Man, recently launched Irish whiskey products from Niche Drinks in Northern Ireland, struck double gold twice at the prestigious San Francisco World Spirits Competition.

Produced in Derry, once the world's biggest producer of Irish whiskey, The Quiet Man gained a Double Gold for its eight-year old Single Malt and also for its blended Irish whiskey.

The awards are a major recognition of the quality of both products which were launched last year and are now on sale in the US, Canada, Germany, France, Italy, Sweden, Denmark and Norway as well as the UK and Republic of Ireland.

Ciaran Mulgrew, managing director of Niche Drinks, which has longstanding track record of exporting success in creating and producing Irish cream liqueurs, including the award winning Saint Brendan's, since 2003, says:

"We are absolutely delighted to have been awarded double golds for both whiskey products. The Quiet Man was the only whiskey to achieve double golds in the awards.

"This is a tremendous endorsement of the quality of both products by an influential panel of expert judges and will be immensely important as we drive global sales of our whiskies.

"A medal at this global competition has come to be the most reliable indication of spirits excellence, and spirits recognised as medal-worthy by the judges are understood around the world by both the trade and consumers to be the best the industry has to offer.

"A double gold is regarded as an outstanding spirit, earning top marks from all judges. It's a marvelous accolade," he adds.

Since its introduction in 2000, the San Francisco World Spirits Competition (SFWSC) has become the most respected and influential spirits competition in the world.

Emphasising integrity and impartiality, the SFWSC takes great pride in ensuring that all entries are treated with equal care and consideration by the judging panels of carefully selected spirits-industry experts.

Judging is based on a consensual procedure whereby specialised judging panels confer to determine which entries are worthy of Bronze, Silver, or Gold medals. If all judges on a panel unanimously agree that an entry merits a Gold medal, it receives a Double Gold award.

Niche Drinks is an independent business currently planning a state-of-the-art whiskey distillery in Derry's Ebrington Square, completion of which is scheduled for early 2018.
