Pure Irish Sea Salt in new Irish Linen pouches
Duvillaun Fine Foods has teamed up with a leading manufacturer of Irish Linen to launch a special gift pouch for its pure Irish natural sea salt.
Duvillaun, which has developed the Atlantic sea salt, is based at Waringstown in county Down but draws its sea salt from a remote and uninhabited island off the coast of Mayo in the Republic of Ireland, launched the pure Irish sea salt earlier in the year.
The sea salt is now available in 100g Irish Linen pouches.
The company is part of Harnett's cold-pressed culinary oils and is named after the island which the Northern Ireland company owns.
Harnett's has a long standing reputation in pioneering award winning cold-pressed food oils such as hemp and rapeseed that are highly rated by leading chefs.
The company is using Irish Linen pouches woven by Thomas Ferguson in Banbridge, county Armagh, a cloth weaver founded in 1854 and now one of Ireland's leading Irish Linen producers.
The salt is hand-harvested from the sea water from around the island which is known for having some of the cleanest waters in the world and is a protected area. The seawater is subsequently processed and packaged at Harnett's in Waringstown.
"The launch of the linen pouch has been developed to emphasise the Irish identity of our salt and its handcrafted nature. We have a number of ideas for the Duvillaun brand in the next few years and this is part of this new business development," says Jane Harnett, a director of Duvillaun Fine Foods.
Duvillaun, known as the Black island, is an uninhabited island north of Achill Island and South of the Inishkeas in the Atlantic Ocean in county Mayo in the Republic of Ireland.
Harnett's Oils is a family-run business which produces cold-pressed and bottles of functional food oils.
The family has been growing GM-free oilseeds in Northern Ireland mostly from local grown crops since the 17th century.
Harnett's has won a series of awards for its artisan products including a gold star for its Pure Rapeseed Oil in the Great Taste Awards 2014 and gold for the oil in Blas na hEireann, Irish National Food and Drink Awards, in 2015.
The company was runner-up in the Great British Farm Produce Awards with the oil. It sells its food oils in Britain and the Republic of Ireland.
