Northern Irish Shortcross Gin in new limited edition
Northern Ireland's award winning Shortcross Gin has collaborated with That Boutique-y Gin Company in London to "distil something rather different, but special", a London twist.
Inspired by the Autumn harvest, Head Distiller David Boyd-Armstrong explained the thoughts behind this expression as: "At Shortcross Gin, we are one of a small number of distilleries and this project allowed us to showcase our distillery and copper pot still.
For this very special Shortcross expression with The Boutique-y Gin Company, we wanted to distil the fruits available from the hidden walled garden and forest here at Rademon Estate.
"We distilled this expression in our bespoke 450l copper pot still in early Autumn, which allowed us to use best of the autumnal harvest in the botanical mix. We wanted to distil a gin that is reminiscent of autumn but one that can also be enjoyed all year round, so we believe that the inclusion of the rich fruity damson's and blackberries are the perfect way of achieving this."
The new limited edition London Dry Gin, Batch 1 gin will have just 1,246 bottles for connoisseurs.
"We foraged damsons, apples and blackberries with drink writer, David T Smith, on the Rademon Estate in Crossgar, County Down, where Shortcross Gin is distilled to create a classic London Dry Gin."
Describing the gin David said: "This gin captures the essence of a London dry style gin, but at the same time brings intense but balanced fruit flavours which work with and build upon the base botanicals. The fruitiness of this expression really showcases the autumnal fruits in the best way but will not feel out of place in a G&T at the height of summer."
The label of this expression shows the Shortcross head distiller and Smith foraging for ingredients on the county Down estate.
The latest Shortcross London Dry Gin Batch 1, is best described as being vibrant with big juicy berries, green apples and citrus oils. With a balanced and rounded sweetness of damson jam. The finish is Seville orange, blackberries and dried apple with a touch of spicy juniper.
When it comes to enjoying this serve Fiona Boyd-Armstrong, Managing Director of Rademon Estate Distillery, says "This expression of Shortcross provides an exceptional G&T, with an orange zest and a cinnamon quill as the garnish or with some fresh mint and blackberries, when in season, would go very well. Whilst David's has found this expression excels in his favourite cocktail, a negroni with a burnt orange garnish!"
