Top healthy food awards for Northern Ireland's Linwoods

Linwoods, the Northern Irish specialist in superfood supplements, has won two awards in the Healthy Food Guide Food and Drink Awards.

The company, which is based in Armagh, gained the prestigious awards in two categories - Best Breakfast Booster and Gym Fix for its products.

The Best Breakfast Booster was Linwood's Milled Flax, Chia Seed, Apple and Cinnamon, the judges describing it as "a good way to boost plant-based Omaga-3s. The produce is available in 200g packs at £4.99.

The Gym Fix success was for its Shelled Hemp, available in 225g packs at £6.49.

Now in the fourth year, the Healthy Food Guide Food & Drink Awards celebrate products that are good tasting and "good for you". The awards are judged by the Healthy Food Guide editorial team and its expert panel, headed by the magazine's nutrition editor Amanda Ursell.

The awards are the only ones judged according to both nutrition and taste. The judges are leading dieticians and health food experts, and the nutrition judging criteria follow government guidelines on healthy intakes for calories, sugars, fat, salt.

Linwoods is a family run business that began producing superfoods, especially flaxseed, in 2002 and now exports these to around 30 countries.

As well as milled flaxseed - the organic version is the company's best-seller - Linwoods also produces a range of healthy superfood combinations including goji berries, sunflower, sesame and chia seeds, hemp, nuts, bio-cultures, vitamin D and co-enzyme Q-10.

The company is also renowned for its high quality dairy and bakery products. From a handful of staff back in the 1960s, Linwoods now provides employment for almost 300 people.
