Halloween flavour from luxury ice cream producer
Glastry Farm, Northern Ireland's award-winning producer of luxury ice cream and low fat, gluten and dairy-free sorbets, has launched a new flavour especially for Halloween.
The company, based on a family-owned dairy farm at Kircubbin in county Down, has developed Bramley Apple with a Taste of Mint ice cream for retail and foodservice customers.
Will Taylor, Glastry's founder and managing director, says: "We've had a number of approaches from customers seeking something different for the Halloween season and so we decided to adapt another traditional Northern Irish flavour from local Bramley apples and add a touch of mint for a really rich flavour.
"It's a time of year when people here are keen on local apple tarts and pies and so it made sense to come up with an ice cream dessert using the same flavour."
Glastry Farm is among the best known and most popular artisan ice cream producers in Northern Ireland and is also developing sales outside the province to the Republic of Ireland, Great Britain and further afield.
The company has developed an extensive portfolio of original ice cream flavours, including Teeling Irish Whiskey, which is produced for the whiskey business in Dublin and is also on sale in retail outlets in Northern Ireland and the Republic.
Glastry Farm, which has won a string of UK Great Taste and Blas na hEireann Irish National Food awards, provides a bespoke service for local chefs seeking highly original flavours for diners.
Mr Taylor is among the most respected dairy farmers and is a former president of the Ulster Farmers' Union. He is also a former Nuffield Scholar. The ice cream business began as a farm diversification project more than a decade ago and has since grown into one of the most enterprising and successful of its kind in Northern Ireland.
