Business boost for Northern Irish Bawnbua

Bawnbua Foods has boosted business in the food ingredients sector following a £500,000 investment in its facilities in Northern Ireland and Wigan. The company is a major supplier of added-value meat products to leading retailers.

The business, which supplies chilled and frozen meats to supermarkets and specialist retailers, can now supply slow-cooked, minced and diced meats to facilities making ready meals and pies.

Its new contracts have been worth more than £2 million in sales to date and demand is expected to grow in the next two to three years.

Bawnbua's Stephen Allen says: "The food service and manufacturing sectors are continually looking for ways to innovate production and drive efficiencies within their businesses; and our portion controlled meat ingredients offering enables them to do so by removing a key cooking process from their system.

"This is a highly strategic development for Bawnbua. It demonstrates how we are continually exploring new options for the business and are playing a key role in the food chain which must continue to innovate if it is to cater for today's increasingly discerning consumer."

Formed in 1985 as Eurostock Meats, Bawnbua, as the company was rebranded earlier this year, has processing operations in Wigan and Lurgan. Its clients include Tesco, Lidl and Aldi.
