Northern Irish seafood specialist for international expo

Northern Irish seafood leader Rooney Fish will be showcasing an extensive range of products at Seafood Expo Global Europe in Brussels in April.

The company, which is based at Kilkeel in county Down, Northern Ireland's main fishing port, will have a new and bigger presentation to show its farm-raised Pacific oysters as well as crab, including crab claws, lobsters, langoustines, whelks and shellfish.

The company exports seafood throughout Europe and Asia, especially to China, Japan and Korea.

Commercial director Andrew Rooney, who was the only representative from the UK fish and seafood industry on the recent business delegation which accompanied prime minister Teresa May to China, says: "Seafood Expo Global in Brussels is a hugely important show for us.

"We've been exhibiting there for many years and, once again, will be the only Northern Irish fish and seafood business there. We've invested in a new stand to enable us to display our vast range of quality fish and seafood. It's a show that produces worthwhile contacts and business for us."

Seafood Expo Global, from 24-26 April, is the world's largest seafood trade event. More than 26,000 buyers, suppliers, media, and other seafood professionals from more than 140 countries visit the exposition.

Attendees come to meet with existing suppliers, source new products and network with other industry professionals. It is the global place where the seafood industry meets.

Formed in 1975, Rooney Fish is a family owned and managed business, which specialises in processing, chilling and freezing of a wide range of seafood and shellfish. The company has won three god star UK Great Taste Awards for its Mill Bay Oysters in 2016 and 2017.

The company, which has offices in France, Spain and Italy, operates from one of the industry's most modern and EC approved processing plants with extensive freezing and storage capacity. It sources its shellfish from the local fishing fleet, purchasing about 90 per cent of the local catch.

Rooney Fish employs 70 people also operates its own trawlers in the Irish Sea.The event is organised by Diversified Communications, experts in organising the world's largest seafood events and leading print and online media..
