Beefy 'eat on the go' move by Northern Ireland's Krazi Baker

Krazi Baker, a specialist in traditional griddle baked Northern Irish breads, has created an innovative pasty-style product aimed particularly at the developing 'food to go' marketplace.

The pioneering baker has added a new meat, vegetable and potato product, a unique Northern Irish potato pasty, to his existing portfolio of traditional soda and potato breads and biscuits that have won UK Great Taste Awards and which are freshly griddle baked at markets and other events in Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.

Most recently, the Krazi Baker (Mark Douglas) successfully introduced his freshly baked breads to shoppers and tourists during a four-day stint at London's iconic Borough Market.

The new product carries forward his longstanding success producing potato apple, a potato bread filled with processed apples that's been made for generations in Northern Ireland.

He's now created a potato, meat and vegetable product based on premium Dexter meat mince with carrots and onions in a potato wrap. The quality meat is pre-cooked before being wrapped in the potato bread and is locally sourced.

Mr Douglas, commenting on the potato meat bread, says: "It's the outcome of my experience griddle baking and producing fresh breads for shoppers. There's a growing especially from people wishing to taste the breads as well as taking them home. I found that shoppers and tourists in London, in particular, were very keen to see how the breads are baked and to enjoy these hot from the griddle.

"Staying ahead in every business requires innovative products, and the new meat and veg potato is something quite different for me. Indeed, it's a unique Northern Irish bread. I am using Dexter beef because of its rich flavour.

"The experience at Borough Market encouraged me to create a meaty 'eat on the go' bread especially for food events in Northern Ireland and elsewhere. I was also influenced by the popularity of hot bacon sodas I baked fresh with a local bacon producer at farmers' markets in Northern Ireland. I've had extremely positive and encouraging feedback from those who have tasted the new meat product," he adds.

Based at Dromore in county Down, Krazi Baker is an experienced baker who has become one of the most popular features at markets in Northern Ireland. His griddle baking of traditional Norrthen irish breads has featured in events run by Tourism NI, Tourism Ireland and other government bodies.
