British Sandwich Award for Northern Ireland business

A Northern Ireland producer of innovative sandwiches and other food-to-go products has won a category award in this year's Sammies, which are run by the British Sandwich Awards.

Around Noon, which is based at Newry in county Down, gained the overall winner in the overall New Sandwich of the Year category with its unique Breakfast Toast and also won the hot sandwich category for this product created by its own development team.

The Sammies celebrate and recognise excellence in the all-important sandwich and food-to-go industry awarding everything from the best sandwich to the best sandwich packaging.

Around Noon, headed by chief executive Gareth Chambers, is one of the UK and Ireland's leaders in a broad range of 'food-to-go products.

The awards were announced on 10 May in London. This year included favourites like the BSA Sandwich Manufacturer and the Sandwich Marketing awards as well as a new award for Food to Go New Product Development.

This split into two categories - one for product, the other for packaging and equipment - and aims to encourage the development of new products for the food-to-go market.

The Sammies 2018 were held in the Nine Kings Suite at the Royal Lancaster London Hotel hosted by comedian Dominic Holland and celebrity chef Theo Randall.
