Innovation award for Naked Bacon creator
Finnebrogue Artisan founder Denis Lynn has been named Director of the Year for Innovation by the highly influential Institute of Directors in Northern Ireland for his development of Naked Nitrite-Free products.
Mr Lynn was among 11 business leaders to be honoured at the annual (IoD NI) Director of the Year Awards sponsored by First Trust Bank.
The awards seek to honour directors at private, third and public sector organisations who go above and beyond to show exceptional levels of leadership and motivation and demonstrate good corporate governance.
Mr Lynn has developed Finnebrogue Artisan, part of Lynn's Country Foods, into one of the UK's most innovative food companies and a major supplier of products, especially sausages and flexitarian foods, to major retailers throughout the UK and Ireland.
The company launched its own Naked nitrite-free bacon, ham and pork sausages earlier in the year to widespread acclaim. The products, the outcome of research over many years, have been listed by major supermarkets including Marks and Spencer, Morrisons, Tesco and Asda.
Mr Lynn also spearheaded the development of one of the most sophisticated and technology advanced production plants in Europe in 2017. The company, based at Downpatrick, county Down, employs around 400 people.
He formed Lynn's Country Foods in the 1990s and then developed venison products from Finnebrogue Estate before diversifying into other meat products especially sausages.
Encouraging exceptional standards of management and a commitment to good corporate governance is at the heart of the work that the IoD does in Northern Ireland.
The Director of the Year Awards act as a benchmark to local organisations and showcases the immense talent and leadership of local business leaders.
