Northern Ireland's PEPPUP Sauces for major show in New York

PEPPUP Sauces in Northern Ireland will be showing its authentic Italian pasta sauces and ketchups at the Summer Fancy Food Show in New York.

The presentation at the show, the biggest food event in the US is the company's first in the US since its launch by Luca Montorio, a native of Turin now based in Portaferry in county Down, in 2013.

The Northern Ireland artisan business, which has won a series of UK Great Taste Awards, is showing its sauces in the central hall in the new Natural Product section at the show, which runs from 30 June to 2 July.

Peppup products on show comprise an original and mild chilli ketchup as well as original and mild chilli pasta sauces, all of which are gluten-free, natural, low in fat and are suitable for vegans.

The recipes for all the products have been created by Mr Montorio from natural ingredients such as roasted tomatoes and peppers. They are widely available in Ireland and in parts of Great Britain.

Mr Montorio, commenting on the decision to exhibit at Fancy Food, says: "This show is among the world's most important and a key platform for entering the hugely significant US market. New York, in particular, is a massive marketplace for authentic Italian foods.

"I am excited to be taking part and looking forward to positive feedback on my authentic Italian sauces which are available in retail jars and special packs for foodservice operations," he adds.

The Summer Fancy Food Show is the largest specialty food industry event in North America, and the premier showcase for industry innovation.

"Apart from roasted peppers and tomatoes, the only other ingredients are sugar, salt and vinegar. I've also developed a reduced salt sauce to meet the requirements of consumers seeking to limit salt intake," he adds.

The artisan company is supplying its range of three sauces to Booths Supermarkets in the north of England - a classic sauce flavour, a mild version with chilli and a reduced sugar and salt variety. They are on sale in 16 stores including the supermarket's main store in Preston.
