UK's best burgers produced in Northern Ireland
The best burgers in the UK are made in Northern Ireland from quality Angus beef, according to judges in a national competition. O'Doherty's Fine Meats in Enniskillen has won two prestigious UK awards for its quality burgers.
The company, renowned for a wide range of innovative meats including Fermanagh Black Bacon, gained the Gold Award and a separate Category Award for its premium burgers in the annual awards of the National Federation of Meat and Food Traders (NFMFT) at a gala event held in the NEC, Birmingham.
The competition, held as part of the international Food and Drink Expo, attracted over 300 entries from butchers and food processors from most parts of the UK.
Pat O'Doherty, managing director of O'Doherty's Fine Meats, commenting on the award, said: "This is an immensely significant award for us because it raises our profile in Great Britain as a major supplier of quality beef products. Our burgers use only the finest quality Aberdeen Angus steak from animals reared on the picturesque and pollution-free shores of Lough Erne.
"This ensures superbly flavoured beef with provenance, features recognised by the judges in this highly competitive event. Winning the burger category and a Gold award is a marvellous endorsement of our burgers."
The NFMFT competition consists of 11 categories ranging from sausages and burgers through to ready meals and pies.
Gold, Silver and Bronze medals were awarded for products achieving the required standard. Additionally, trophies were awarded to each of the category winners
The competition was open to all UK independent butchers, farm shops and food processors and attracted a total of 326 entries.
O'Doherty's has been in the forefront of the meat industry for over 40 years. The company has an enviable reputation for fine meat products throughout Ireland and the United Kingdom having won numerous national awards.
The National Federation of Meat & Food Traders is a national organisation, which has given representation and business support to thousands of independent meat and food traders for more than 100 years. It is the only nationally recognised organisation to represent the independent meat trader in England, Wales and Northern Ireland at European, government and industry level.
It has a high degree of expertise and experience in all meat and food issues. The federation is also an active member of the International Butchers Confederation, which through its Brussels office, is at the heart of EU affairs.
