Magnificent seven in Great Taste Awards for Suki Tea in Belfast
Belfast-based Suki Tea has been awarded a total of seven gold stars in this year's Great Taste Awards across five of their teas. The Great Taste Awards are the most trusted and recognised food and drink awards across the country.
Suki's Tanzanian grown Triple Certified Chamomile, awarded two stars, was highly praised for its 'gorgeous colour .. and well balanced flavour with a good, almost fennel-like sweetness and lingering flavours on the finish.'
Triple Certified Earl Grey Blue Flower, hand blended in Belfast and also awarded 2 stars, was commended for its 'beautiful colour… great leaf… and vibrant yet creamy taste'.
Spiced Citrus Pyramids, Indian Chai, and Jasmine Dragon Phoenix Pearls each received 1 star with comments including 'good flavours' 'gently warming' and 'Beautifully rolled leaf'.
Oscar Woolley, co-director of Suki Tea, said: "Since first entering the awards in 2006 we are delighted the judges have awarded our product year on year, and are thrilled with the awards we have obtained for 2012. Great Taste recognises the craft and dedication that goes into making superb food and drink, and to be a part of this provides us with great confidence in our range."
The stars were awarded as part of the Guild of Fine Food's annual Great Taste accreditation scheme, which saw 8,807 food and drink products blind-tasted and whittled down over the course of 45 days by 300 experts.
Suki Tea started at St George's Market in Belfast in March 2005. The company's quest was to find the perfect cuppa, full of great taste and ethically sourced. Suki specialises in the finest of loose leaf teas from around the world including a range of black, green, white, oolong, herbal and fruit infusions. The complete range comprises more than 45 teas.
Suki Tea has been served up at cafes, restaurants, and hotels around the UK and across the world for a number of years now and is also available to buy in many stores such as local delicatessens, and garden centres.
