Linwoods launches probiotic and vitamin-enriched fresh milk
Linwoods, the Northern Irish dairy and food business, has launched Europe's first probiotic and vitamin-enriched fresh milk. Linwoods Super Healthy Milk has been developed by the company, which is based in Armagh and is also known in Europe and the US for its range of seeds, nuts and berries under the Linwoods Superfoods brand.
The company is aiming to market the new milk in Britain, the Republic of Ireland and further afield. John Woods, managing director of Linwoods, says: "Our new Super Healthy Milk is a prime example of the pioneering spirit and a tangible demonstration of our capacity to be a leader in innovation. There is no fresh milk product of this kind in Europe at present and its launch serves to confirm our strong position within both the dairy industry and the wider 'healthy eating' sector.
"The dairy industry is, famously, a tough one. Economic recession has left its mark on the sector all the way from the milking parlour to the point of delivery with the customer.
"Consequently the entire industry has been eagerly awaiting the 'next big thing' - and we believe that is what we have developed. We decided that we could create an even healthier fresh milk and, by investing significantly in product research, development and marketing, we are now in a position to bring Super Healthy Milk to market - an every day, affordable probiotic milk with unique health properties suited to all the family."
Linwoods Super Healthy Milk is a natural, fresh milk and tastes exactly like 'ordinary' milk. The addition of probiotic and vitamins supercharges the product's health-giving properties.
The milk contains probiotic, known to help support the digestive and immune systems. It is low-fat and enriched with Vitamin D, E and K2 essential for strong bones and teeth. Linwoods is also the very first dairy in Europe to fortify a milk with Vitamin K2.
The company holds European exclusivityof the superior Ganeden BC30 strain of probiotic used in the new milk.
The new milk is sold in convenient 1.5 litre cartons and is seen by the company as a healthier, natural and more affordable everyday alternative to sugary probiotic drinks.
The company will be marketing the new product under the slogan 'fresh milk just got better'.
Linwoods dairy and bakery was established in the early 1980s and quickly expanded to become one of Northern Ireland's leading food companies.
