Proper Porridge launched by Cloughbane Farm Foods
Proper Porridge, an easy-cook breakfast meal, has been developed by Northern Ireland-based Cloughbane Farm Foods, an award winning farm-based business.
The pre-prepared porridge of oats and milk is ready to enjoy after just five minutes in a microwave. Proper Porridge is produced in 280g plastic tubs and is currently available in four tasty flavours - Proper Porridge Original, which retails at £1.25; Proper Porridge with cinnamon at £1.35; Proper Porridge with dates £1.35; and Proper Porridge with honey £1.35.
The porridge was developed by the Cloughbane Farm family business for those seeking a healthy and convenient breakfast. It's now on sale in independent stores in Northern Ireland.
The company, which has a longstanding reputation for quality meats, pies and lasagne for retailers in the UK and Ireland, also aims to sell the new porridge to customers in both markets.
Robert Robinson, who came up with the idea for Proper Porridge and then convinced parents Lorna and Sam Robinson, founders of Cloughbane Farm Foods, says: "There's nothing better and healthier than starting the day with a bowl of porridge but making it from scratch can be a bit of a chore.
"I usually made enough for a week ahead, which can be very time consuming. This led me to come up with the idea of a ready prepared porridge in a one-serving tub that could be stored for use whenever required.
"Proper Porridge is another product in line with our company ethos focusing on good and wholesome food with provenance. The principal ingredients are all locally sourced from a group of trusted and quality conscious suppliers," he adds.
Cloughbane Farm Foods was established in 2002 as a farm diversification project and is now among the most successful businesses in Northern Ireland.
The company has won a string of UK Great Taste Awards for its premium quality products. It draws its meat, mostly from Aberdeen Angus and Limousin cattle, raised on the family farm's180 acres of rich pasture in County Tyrone.
As well as beef, the farm raises lamb and free-range eggs. In addition to its own beef, the company sources supplies of high quality meat from other local farmers.
Provenance is a key marketing feature for the business. The broad range of products all use ingredients from the company's farm and surrounding farms and are processed to the highest hygiene standards.
