Alfee's launches new range of quality sauces for foodservice

A new range of mayonnaise, sauces, curries and gravy products for foodservice in the UK and Ireland will be launched by Alfee's, a Northern Irish business with a heritage in food stretching over 90 years.

The new range from Alfee's will officially be launched at IFE in London this March. The range includes a gluten-free gravy and is based on the experience of parent company Rich Sauces, a longstanding supplier of premium quality sauces to foodservice operations in Great Britain, other parts of Europe and the US. Both ranges are produced at the company's modern processing operation at Newtownards, in County Down.

The range includes a real mayo, thick and creamy mayo and flavoured mayos, such as Garlic, Tikka, Coronation, Mexican and including popular sauces such as Sweet Chilli, BBQ, as well as curry powders, gravy and ketchup.

Alfee's sauces have been created by the company's team of experienced chefs and is being produced for foodservice in 2.5 litre containers with the mayo also available in 10 litre tubs.

Tim Kells, the self-titled Sultan of Sauce at Alfee's, says the company decided to develop the new sauces in response to market demand for quality products that also offer value for money.

"Alfees is pitched at a price point just below our existing and very successful range from Rich Sauces, which have gained a deserved reputation for consistently high quality amongst manufacturers, and general foodservice stores.

"We've been aware of some foodservice operators facing greater cost constraints because of the economic situation. What we've achieved through the development of Alfee's is to maintain quality and taste in a range geared to help existing and potential customers to enhance their cost-competitiveness in today's challenging market conditions.

"What they can also count on is our commitment to highly consistent, quality products and excellent service based on our heritage in food preparation going back to when the business was formed in Belfast," he adds.

This heritage is seen in the company's decision to develop the new brand as a tribute to Alfee Kells, grandfather of Tim Kells.

"Alfee, who was born in 1921, has always worked in foodservice either in groceries or in fast food during some challenging economic times. It was because of this experience and his culinary influence on my father, Trevor, who founded Rich Sauces in 1985 that we decided to name our new brand Alfee."

The company has a longstanding commitment to using the best ingredients in its products and, for instance, has been using rapeseed oil as a key ingredient for more than two decades. Rapeseed oil has a high content of Omega 3,6,9 and Vitamin E and is recognised as being a healthier alternative to olive oil especially when heated.

Rich Sauces is Ireland's leading producer of bulk sauces, dressings and bouillon. The company's client portfolio currently includes foodservice/catering, sandwich and salad manufacturers, industrial catering, ready meals, restaurateurs and retailers.
