Taste and value from Northern Ireland at Boston Seafood
Visitors to the Boston Seafood Exhibition, from 9-14 March, will see a broad range of quality fish and seafood products from Northern Ireland (Stand 2542).
On show on the Northern Ireland stand will be fish, smoked and fresh salmon, crab meat and deli crab claws, oysters, mussels, shelled and half-shell queenie scallops, and fresh and cooked langoustines.
The seafood is all sourced from cold and invigorating waters around Ireland, including the Atlantic, which ensures rich flavours and firm textures. The vast majority of Northern Irish seafood is exported to customers throughout Europe including upmarket hotels and restaurants, and leading retailers.
Seafood from Northern Ireland processors, including organic salmon, is also sold to retail and foodservice customers in centres such as New York and Boston.
Four processing companies - Ewing's Seafoods, Glenarm Organic Salmon, Kilhorne Bay Seafoods and Rooney Fish - will showcase products on the stand, which is organised by Invest Northern Ireland, the region's business promotion agency.
Northern Irish fish companies are longstanding and successful exporters and are committed to developing sales in the US. The companies currently have business in key European markets such as France, Italy, Spain and the Netherlands.
Three of the four, in addition, regularly ship seafood to high-end customers, particularly in foodservice, in the United Arab Emirates. Other markets served by the companies include Hong Kong and Japan.
The Northern Irish delegation also includes representatives from the Anglo North Irish Fish Producers Organisation, the main trade body, and Albus Solutions, a leading manufacturer of processing equipment.
Participation in the exhibition is part of an initiative by Invest NI, Northern Ireland's business development agency, to help accelerate exports of seafood. This has already involved trade missions to Boston, Hong Kong and the United Arab Emirates over the past year.
Invest NI works closely with the processors in the development and global marketing of products. Invest NI brokers business relationships between processors and retailers and foodservice organisations worldwide. The body has an office in Boston which has assisted the participation of companies in the exhibition.
