Cooking oil recycler invests to meet growing demand

Frylite, the Northern Irish specialist in recycling waste cooking oils, has announced a £2 million investment to grow business in the Republic of Ireland and other parts of Europe.

The expansion is creating 19 new jobs, 11 of which are already in place, its processing plant at Strabane in county Tyrone, near the border with the Republic of Ireland.

Frylite supplies, collects and recycles cooking oils for a range of foodservice customers in the UK, Republic of Ireland and Europe. The company is investing in a new waste oil treatment plant, the development of new washing and drying technology and enhanced marketing activities abroad.

The important strategic investment by Frylite, which is currently celebrating the 25th anniversary of its establishment, will help the business to achieve faster growth and improve its productivity.

The investment in new technology will make a significant contribution to improving the efficiency and cost-effectiveness of both its waste oil recycling facility and fresh oil supply operation.

Eamon McCay, Frylite managing director, says "This is a very substantial expansion project for us that will enable us to consolidate our position as the market leader in the supply of fresh oils in Northern Ireland and RoI, as well as help accelerate our growth in the collection and recycling of waste oils.

"The investment in waste oil processing enables us to meet new international sustainability and carbon certification requirements and to offer our customers services that help them to do so. It will strengthen our competitive edge and enable us to develop new business opportunities that we've identified in Great Britain and other parts of Europe for our waste oil services."

In addition to the waste oil collection service, Frylite installs equipment appropriate to the needs of the customers and provides a cleaning, maintenance and replacement service.

The business currently employs around 40 people in Strabane, with further 26 employed at locations in Galway and Dublin.
