ORIGINAL IDEAS FROM BRITAIN'S FOOD BASKET AT IFE

Close connections between food processors and farms will be emphasized on the Northern Ireland group stand at the International Food Exhibition at ExCel in London from 15-18 March. Fourteen companies will be displaying a broad range of natural food and drink in the Northern Ireland Pavilion ??"N3205 / N3219 / N3230 ??" organised by the Food Division of Invest Northern Ireland, the region's business development body.

Underpinning the launch of innovative products for the retail and foodservice sectors at the exhibition is a longstanding commitment to quality, traceability and wholesomeness, a commitment that has led to the region, among the cleanest and greenest in Europe, being regarded as a major source of new ideas in natural food products by many of the top international businesses. New launches at IFE from Northern Ireland include innovations in quality convenience meals, home baking, richly flavoured sauces, desserts and beverages. Today, food processing remains Northern Ireland's most important and successful manufacturing industry. And processors source virtually all their supplies from local farms. Several on the stand are essentially farm enterprises that have made the transition successfully to global business. It's also an industry operating to the highest European hygiene standards from modern processing plants. As a result, food retailers of the calibre of Asda, Sainsbury, Marks and Spencer, Waitrose, Tesco, Morrisons, Harrods and Safeway now look to Northern Ireland suppliers for innovation in beef, lamb and pork, dairy, bread, as well as a broad range of products for other sectors These successes have made Northern Ireland the food basket for Great Britain, the Republic of Ireland and other parts of Europe. More than a third of total sales of Northern Ireland food products and two-thirds of external sales go to customers in Great Britain. Embracing the trends towards quality and original meal ideas, Northern Ireland processors have teamed up with Irish celebrity chefs Paul Rankin and Jenny Bristow to create new and different taste experiences for consumers. Products developed in association with the celebrity chefs will also be on show on the Northern Ireland stand.
