First craft gin launched by Northern Irish distillery
Shortcross Gin has been launched in Northern Ireland by Rademon Estate Distillery, a craft distillery, the region's first gin for over a century.
Shortcross Gin is described by Rademon Craft Distillery, based at Crossgar in county Down, as "an aromatic and exceptionally long, smooth gin that redefines what an Irish gin should be".
The gin is based on fresh apples, elderberries and wild clover distilled with other botanicals including juniper, coriander, orange peel, lemon peel and cassia.
Distiller David Boyd-Armstrong, says: "The combination of botanicals creates a unique and uplifting aroma reminiscent of a summer meadow, and gives Shortcross Gin a classic yet contemporary flavour with an exceptionally smooth and long peppery finish.
"We are passionate about handcrafting and creating only the finest, artisan premium spirits products. In creating Shortcross Gin, we have taken the time and passion to ensure that every aspect of the gin is perfected by hand.
"From handpicking and sourcing the finest botanicals, drawing our own fresh water, distilling in a bespoke copper still, to bottling and labelling, every element of Shortcross Gin is created by hand to meet our exacting standards for exceptional quality.," he adds
Founded in 2012 by David and wife Fiona and, Rademon Estate Distillery is located on the family's historic estate.
Shortcross Gin is currently being distributed in Northern Ireland and is now available in leading bars and restaurants. The company is implementing plans to sell the gin outside Northern Ireland especially in Great Britain and the Republic of Ireland.
Shortcross Gin is driven by a small batch philosophy. It uses the finest handpicked botanicals, fresh water drawn from the estate itself and distilled in a bespoke copper still. Bottling and labelling are carried out by hand.
The gin can be enjoyed without water and has an earthy character intertwined with orange peel and light peppery citric note and a mellow minty scent. Taste tests suggest the gin has vanilla notes is lightly peppery and oily with late notes of orange and elder on the palate. With tonic, the gin has clear citric and juniper notes. It is light floral with summer meadow and grassy notes. It has a heavy and oily taste with earthy and citric notes balanced between lemon and orange. The gin has an extremely long aftertaste.
