H & J Carnduff is the Northern Ireland Butcher’s Shop of the Year 2019!

H & J Carnduff has been crowned the Northern Ireland Butcher’s Shop of the Year 2019, beating off top-quality competition to become the best butcher shop in the country.

Brought to you by Meat Trades Journal, Butcher’s Shop of the Year celebrates independent retail butchers and the fantastic work they do.

Thirteen awards were presented during the ceremony in front of an audience of 200 guests on 4 November at Hilton London Bankside. For this year’s competition, our judges had an extremely difficult task to identify the overall winner.

MTJ’s Publisher Sonia Young praised the finalists and winners. “The finalists and category winners displayed an extremely high standard, making judging for this year’s competition very difficult. Every single one of these businesses are at the very top of their game and are providing a fantastic service to their communities.”

H & J Carnduff is a small shop that packs a big punch for customers. With separate deli and lunchtime premises just around the corner, several concessions at shops, and upstairs preparation facilities for a wide range of meats and ready meals this is a well-run, high turnover business.

H & J Carnduff resident butcher Josh Robinson also scooped up the Young Butcher of the Year award. A great testament to the training and support provided by the shop. Josh plans to pick up as much knowledge as possible from the skilled members of his team and play a major role in the running and managing of the shop in the future.

Pynes of Somerset was crowned the overall Butcher’s Shop of the Year 2019. Owner, Malcolm Pyne said “this is a fantastic day for our family business, it could not have been possible without my staff and wife for all their hard work. I can’t express how happy I am, this is one of the biggest days of my life. We’re overjoyed to have won this award and would encourage every butcher to enter next year to show off their business.”

Butcher’s Shop of the Year 2019 is kindly sponsored by Butchers Sundries, HYBU CIG CYMRU, Lucas Ingredients, Middleton Foods, Scobies Direct, Tican chilled and Weddel Swift.
